Dr. Deneen Baron
Dr. Deneen Baron is a graduate of the University of British Columbia Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctor programs. She completed her internship in Edmonton, Alberta and was then accepted into the Fellowship in Sports Medicine program at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic (only 5 positions were available in Canada at the time). Following this, she obtained her Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine Diploma.
Dr. Baron has worked in Family practice, Sports Medicine, as well as in the Medical Rehabilitation department at the Worker’s Compensation Board of BC and as a medical consultant for Worksafe BC for 15 years.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Baron started working as a surgical assistant for orthopedic surgeries at the Cambie Surgery and False Creek Surgery centres. She continues to work as a surgical assistant at the above locations and also at Lion’s Gate and UBC Hospitals.
Dr. Baron now works at the Fraser Orthopaedic Institute in the MSK (musculoskeletal) clinic where she treats sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions such as knee arthritis. She is experienced in performing injections of knee and shoulder joints.
Dr. Baron volunteered her time to cover many sports teams, including the University of Alberta men’s hockey team, the Canadian Women’s softball team, the Canadian Women’s wrestling team, the Canadian Women’s wheelchair basketball team, and as a Team Physician for the Canada Winter games, the BC Winter games, and the Olympic Games in 2010.
Dr. Baron and her family have lived on the North Shore for over 25 years. She enjoys participating in many activities, including ice hockey, cycling, softball, and hiking.
