Afterglow is a full-service medi-spa, founded in 2005 by Dr. Shehla Ebrahim, a practising family physician. Dr. Ebrahim's passion for wellness and beauty - the underpinnings of self-confidence - has led to Afterglow's growing reputation as a respected provider of professional skincare services in the Greater Vancouver area. Although the medi-spa is situated in North Vancouver, it attracts clients from all over the province: a testament to the satisfaction of those who have experienced Dr. Ebrahim's professional and friendly manner as well as her technical ability.

The staff of Afterglow Medi-Spa believe strongly in corporate social responsibility. Our special role as health professionals enables us to give back to the communities in which we live, as well as to the world at large.

In 2002, Dr. Ebrahim travelled to Tibet to provide free medical services to the nomads of the eastern regions. In 2006, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for BC Children's Hospital.

In 2010 Dr. Ebrahim is preparing to climb Mount Everest Base Camp with a mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote, underserviced and war stricken areas of Northern Pakistan. She believes that the best hope for a peaceful and prosperous world lies in the education of all the world's children.

In collaboration with the Central Asia Institute, a non-profit organization, Dr. Ebrahim has been donating 2% of the profits from Afterglow, since January, 2009.

Introducing Laser Genesis for fresher, younger skin

Laser Genesis Skin Therapy has recently arrived at Afterglow. This non-invasive treatment safely and effectively treats fine wrinkles, large pores, uneven skin texture, scars and diffuse redness in both men and women. While you will see a subtle improvement after each individual treatment, the cumulative effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic. There are no unpleasant side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation.

Laser Genesis Skin Therapy treatments are performed in a relaxed and comfortable manner without the need for topical anaesthetics or gel. Clients who have received the treatment report excellent results over the entire face and  neck. (The treatment can also be applied to scarring on other parts of the body.)

If you suffer from rosacea (persistent rosiness of the face), you will know how frustrating this condition can be. To end the annoyance and embarrassment , Afterglow has put together a simple, effective treatment plan for this common skin disorder.

Symptoms of rosacea are ongoing redness, flushing, breakouts that resemble mild acne, and the development of small red facial veins known as telangiectasias. Fortunately, modern treatments and the new, effective ingredients found in Afterglow’s cosmeceuticals for rosacea, will target these conditions and, over time, return the skin to a more “normal” colour.

One of the most effective treatments for rosacea is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy. IPL addresses the skin’s redness by specifically targeting the superficial capillaries that contribute to the rosy appearance. A series of gentle treatments using state-of-the-art Sciton BBL Broadband Light will result in a marked improvement in appearance, while occasional maintenance treatments can ensure this improvement persists.

The Afterglow cosmeceutical line for sensitive, rosacea prone skin comprises a choice of cleansers (Afterglow RosaCleanse™ Foamy and RosaCleanse™ Creamy). These can be used on either dry or oily skin and are 100% soap-free. They effectively remove dirt and sebum (oil) without stripping or drying the skin.

Afterglow RosaGel™ emollient anti-redness gel contains a number of ingredients helpful for sensitive, rosy skin. Vitamin K helps minimize the appearance of small capillaries, Green Tea exerts a healing, antioxidant effect, and 4-ethoxybenzaldehyde reduces the redness associated with rosacea, and is particularly beneficial following a treatment such as IPL.
