Are Acne Scars Treatable With Lasers?

sciton--300x198Collagen induction therapy with microneedling is an exciting new treatment that uses controlled heat from radio frequency to help remodel the abnormal collagen in patients with acne scars.

Dr. Shehla Ebrahim, our experienced physician, explains what this new technology can do:

  • A new study from the Journal of Dermatology (May 2014 issue) has found that fractional radio frequency microneedling can be a safe, effective treatment for the treatment of acne vulgaris and acne scars.
  • In this study, participating patients were treated three times at one-month intervals. Lesion count, patient satisfaction score, sebum levels, and side effects were assessed at baseline, four, eight, and twelve weeks after the first treatment. They were assessed again at the same intervals after the final treatment.
  • Both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesion counts decreased, and stable excretion and patient satisfaction increased at every point compared to baseline.
  • Furthermore, there were few adverse effects, including pinpoint bleeding, pain, and erythema, but these effects were considered insufficient to stop treatment.
  • Acne patients with lesions and scars treated with the radio frequency system showed improvement in collagen re-modelling with two passes per treatment.
  • Micro-needling (with radio frequency) is an exciting technology that uses radio frequency to remodel the collagen without any downtime. Most patients can go to work the same day with little make-up.
