Permanent makeup is about beauty and convenience. Imagine getting up in the morning and getting ready for work without the daily time-consuming routine of applying makeup. Imagine looking your best no matter what. Whether you're an athlete, woman on the go, suffer from allergies, or simply want to save time and money, you'll be pleased with how you look and feel with permanent makeup.
Also known as cosmetic micropigmentation, permanent cosmetics are popular time-saving solutions that enhance your beauty for years. Micropigmentation is the application under the skin of a cosmetic tattoo that emulates eyeliner, eyebrow pencils, lipliner, and lipstick. Application by a trained professional provides beautiful, natural looking results.
Medically-trained technicians have used this technique in Canada and North America since the early 1980s.
Afterglow Medical Aesthetics & Skin Care uses the safest, highest-quality pigmentation, and highest standard of medical equipment to produce reliable and natural results.
Who Benefits from Permanent Makeup?
If you experience any of the following, you may be a candidate for permanent makeup:
- Poor vision, arthritis, dexterity problems, allergies to makeup, watery eyes, or problems with contact lenses
- Oily skin that causes makeup to smear.
- Lost eyebrows/eyelashes caused by alopecia, chemotherapy or overplucking
- Irregularly shaped lips - permanent makeup can make your lips look fuller and more evenly pigmented
Permanent makeup procedures
Eyebrows that are too light, too thin, sparse or non-existent can be beautifully enhanced and improved with cosmetic micropigmentation.
Highlighting eyebrows enhances your eyes, giving them a vibrant expression. Each hair is individually and carefully drawn to give you an attractive, soft and natural look.
One of the most beneficial uses of permanent make up is to recreate the illusion of eyelashes, profoundly enhancing the beauty of your eyes.
Lip colour is perfect for irregularly shaped lips, thin lips, or lips with uneven vermillion border. It corrects the lipstick "bleeding" into the fine lines around your mouth making your lips look fuller, lusher, and evenly pigmented.
Camouflage is another helpful application of cosmetic micropigmentation. Colour is added to the skin and scar to blend into the surrounding tissues.
The permanent makeup technique is also used to recreate nipple and areola areas after breast reconstruction surgery. Pigment colours are customized to blend with the surrounding tissues.
Permanent make up FAQ
How do I know I will like my permanent makeup?
During your consultation, our technician "pre-draws" your eyebrows, lips or eyeliner using makeup, so you can pre-approve the shape and colour before the procedure begins.
How long will it last?
Permanent makeup will last 3 to 5 years, and will fade gradually (colour will lighten) over time. Factors such as sun exposure, skin care habits and age can affect the longevity of permanent makeup.
What can I expect to look like immediately after the procedure?
Immediately after your permanent makeup procedure, the area will look somewhat red and swollen, which may last only a few hours or up to a few days.
Important things to remember
The pigment will darken as it heals, and may look too dark for a few days until the area is fully healed. It is important to remember that the pigment will lighten 40 to 60 percent.
After your permanent makeup procedure, you return to our North Vancouver skin care centre in 2 to 4 weeks for a "touch up" visit.
Please avoid touching the treatment area as much as possible, except to gently clean and apply Polysporin if directed.
