Facial Scarring

| Read more about... |
Facial scarring is a source of low self-esteem for men, women and children. Fortunately, your scars can be erased or minimized with today's technology.
Facial scarring is usually a result of cystic acne trauma, burns, surgery, or a result of aggressive chicken pox. Scars form as part of your body's healing process in response to multiple layers of skin injury.
Afterglow Skin & Laser Centre offers multiple scar treatment options to eliminate or reduce your facial scarring. Scar removal treatments include excisional surgery, punch grafting, soft tissue augmentation, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels and dermabrasion.
Excisional surgery is the cutting away of scar tissue. Punch grafting is the removal of the scar and replacement by small skin grafts. Soft tissue augmentation uses natural or synthetic fillers such as dermalogen, haform, restylane, or others. The duration of the improvement depends on the size and location of the scar treated, as well as the scar treatment material.
Afterglow Skin & Laser Centre is also pleased to offer ProFractional laser, the newest cutting edge technology for skin resurfacing. This laser skin resurfacing technology works for all skin types and provides long-lasting results with minimal downtime.
Keloid and Hypertrophic Scars

A hypertrophic scar is a thickened scar that forms due to injury to the skin. The scar does not go beyond the border of the cut or surgical wound. A keloid literally means a "crab-like" scar and extends beyond the border of the affected area. Hypertrophic scars flatten out spontaneously within a year. If the scar is still raised after one year, it will not usually flatten on its own. Keloid scars often continue increase in size for several years.
These scars can be addressed through topical treatments such as retinoids (Vitamin A acid), steroids, or silicone gels; or by laser resurfacing treatment (see description above).
