Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
| Read more about... |
Hyperhidrosis is a chronic disorder of excessive sweating that can affect any body part, including underarms, palms, soles of feet, and faces. Far more than a simple inconvenience, this condition can have a profound impact on one's work and social life. Routine social interactions such as holding or shaking hands, or hugging become awkward. Stained or soaked clothing creates a strong sense of embarrassment and humiliation. Hyperhidrosis affects approximately 30% of the population, or some 950,000 Canadians.
There are several ways to treat hyperhidrosis. Topical treatments can be effective for mild cases but not for more serious symptoms. Iontophoresis is a method of treating hyperhidrosis of the hands and feet, and involves passing a low-intensity electric current through water in which the hands and feet are immersed. Surgery is often a last resort for people whose lifestyles are seriously affected by the condition or where more conventional therapies have failed. Botox injections are one effective means of dealing with more severe instances of underarm perspiration. Studies have shown a high rate of success with minimal side effects.
Afterglow Skin & Laser Centre offers Botox treatments as an effective option for many hyperhidrosis cases. Contact us for a free consultation to find out if this treatment can work for you.
Hyperhidrosis treatment is covered by many private and extended medical plans, so be sure to check with your medical plan provider.
