Skin Cancer Treatment
Do you enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle? How about visiting the lake or beach to soak up some rays from time to time? Although fun in the sun can be essential to maintaining a balanced way of life, overexposure to damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays may lead to some serious health concerns, including skin cancer. Thankfully, a number of innovative techniques are available to help treat various types of skin cancers and precancers.
At Afterglow Physician Directed Medical Aesthetics, Dr. Shehla Ebrahim and Dr. Christopher Pavlou offer Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Picato® Gel therapy for the treatment of superficial skin cancers in their earliest stages. Brief descriptions of both therapies can be found below. If you have any questions, or if you are interested in scheduling a complimentary consultation at our office, please contact us today.
Photodynamic Therapy with Levulan® ALA and Blu-U®
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) with Levulan® ALA and Blu-U® involves the use of a topical cream and light-based treatment designed to help manage actinic keratosis (AK), or precancerous skin lesions. Once exposed to a particular wavelength of the Blu-U® light source, the Levulan® cream is activated, helping to destroy abnormal cells in the targeted area.
Picato® Gel is a revolutionary therapy intended to treat actinic keratosis (AK), a common precancerous lesion. Applied topically to the skin, Picato® Gel has proven to significantly clear AKs in two to three days with excellent results and limited side effects.
FotoFinder® Mole Mapping
FotoFinder bodystudio is a computerized mole mapping system which allows Dr. Ebrahim to create an accurate set of photos of your moles. She can then compare your moles with photos from your initial visit and immediately find new or changed moles on your skin
